My never fail, accurate load for what you want to do is 23-24 gr 5744, .75 gr fluffy dacron fill, RCBS 405 FN GC bullet at 12 BHN and sized to .459.Someone mentioned on another forum that the 40-72 winchester is almost the exact same dimensions as the 405 winchester. Sounds like the 40-72 would be silhouette legal if made from 405 brass, which of, course is nearly the same case. Pedersoli is the best of the Italian reproductions but does not by any means match the quality and strength of Shiloh. Sharps 74 wins more than it's share of matches against hiwalls. Shiloh Sharps is easy to disassemble and clean or repair---not so with hiwalls.After you put down the deposit with Shiloh you'll have approximately a year to change details including caliber. Some final thoughts. I think Shiloh will be around a long time. Current barrels are as good as anyones if not better. Ive never seen a Bryan era Shiloh with anything but perfect wood to metal fit. Pedersoli have superb barrels with good metal work, especially on the action, and good inletting of the stocks.
